Ok so heres how it goes.

    1. Started with windows xp working fine
    2. got an error which requires windows cd to fix (recovery console)
    3. got hal.dll error when trying to fix.
    4. got passed hal.dll but still can't boot into windows usb/sd card (I made a few)
    5. every time I boot one of the created usb or sd cards I just see a flashing underscore.
    6. I know it's not hardware because I can boot my ubuntu liveusb and sd

So please I need to get my laptop fixed I use it every day for numerous hours.

All you can do is to reinstall windows or use recovery option in Windows installer. The best option is to use external CD drive, as this is the only one that Windows supports out-of-the-box.

I think it could be to do with the fact i'm making the SD with an iso moutned instead of A CD i'll also see what I can do with a mates usb stick tommorow.

Does it matter if you repair with an xp home install when its xp pro im trying to fix?
