You'll need to download and install all of the drivers for Windows XP. Specifically your Wireless Driver.

    Try experimenting with other networks.

    Or download WeFi [google it]

I downloaded drivers and still nothing. I wonder if re-installing windows will help? I have the 2002 version and it has slightly different setup for wireless. sort of dificult to navigate for illiterates like me. This is setting me nuts. I am used to turning a machine on and up flashes the "wireless network connection excellent"
    groan.

Default Have you checked the switch?

I'm not 100% sure that the HP 2133 has it, but many notebooks (and I'm pretty sure the HP 2133 does) have a switch for turning on / off the wireless functionality.

Worth a quick check that it is turned ON

It is the lighted slide switch on the right front. Should be blue when Wifi is connected.

Check if your WiFi is enabled/disabled

    1) Right click “My Computer”
    2) Properties
    3) Hardware
    4) Device Manager
    5) Network adaptors
    6) Select the WiFi adaptor
    7) Right click; - ensure it is enabled
