    Default Slow resume from hibernate

    Hi,

I've got an HP 2133 1.2 GHz, 120 GB HDD (5400rpm) and 2 GB ram

It works fine, but I think it's slow to resume from hibernate:
    - 48s when no running programs.
    - 1mn10s when heavy programs running

Does it work faster on your model ?

How can I reduce resume time ? (7200rpm HDD I suppose .. what else ?)

    Thanks

You can suspend instead of hibernating, but that will use some battery. Don't leave it on suspend for more than a couple days plus it might need to be recharged after a long suspend, but it comes out of it in just 5 or 6 seconds.

    Default only option: new ssd

I can confirm that it will take such a long time and I also searched for a way to reduce it, however I realized this doesn't really make sense (for me).

the 120GB hard disc in the 2133 is not very fast. 2GB will take at least 40 seconds to load from the disc, so your 48 seconds wake up time (including some seconds for the mini to wake up and windows to initialize) is very close to the miminum with your hardware configuration.

the only feasable option is a very fast hard disc (e.g. WD5000bevt - 70-80mb/s ~ 30 seconds to resume from hibernate)

you can go for e.g. a new samsung SSD. they are said to have a transfer rate of about 200MB per second, which should wake up the mini in less than 20 seconds, maybe only 15. but this is just an assumption as i didn't try that on my own.

My personal solution is to keep my mini in suspend mode for 2 hours before it hibernates.

This way, I usually only have to resume from hibernate in the morning.

Even with the best optimizations I could only save 30 seconds per day, but I would have to spend at least two hours of my life to search for a SSD, buy it, backup my hard disc, put the ssd in my mini note and restore my backup to the ssd. these two hours are the equivalent of 240 times resuming from hibernate (extra time with standard hard disk compared to a ssd).

And there is the cost of the ssd plus the risk of damaging my mini note.

same problem here. it actually finished resume showing my desktop in progress, but it's slow reading files
by checking taskmgr, I'm sure system cache was purged, i can see the numbers is low there

looks like it was caused by the patch that fix http://support.microsoft.com/default...;en-us;Q327086

i wanted to find a registry to turn this "feature" off, but haven't manage to yet

Check the HP product support pages.
They have been carrying information on the "slow to resume" problem for several months now.

There is one really easy method to speed up exiting hibernation that nobody mentioned before: go back from 2GB down to 1GB of memory - time needed to wake up from hibernation is proportional to the amount of data to be read from the hard drive, and this is directly related to amount of RAM you have.
Anyway I really see no point in using hibernation at all (apart from situation you would loose your work at the end of battery charge).
