Can anyone here give some ram usage checks on avira, eset and comodo sophos is hitting over 100meg when updating and worse now eating cpu when installing software, never did on my old p3 laptop that was under half the speed of the mini note so they must have changed something!

    Default eset smart security

    Hey guys,
My first post on this forum btw ...

Having done a small research on google I managed to find that the "best" CPU friendly anti virus program is actualy Nod32 according to some experts. Although it could be worth having it on the mini 2133 laptop. It might not be as effcient in tracking down viruses comparison to Norton anti virus for example. I tryed finding the source to where I found the information about these anti virus programs but I couldn't find it unfortunately. I did this research a few weaks ago so things could have changed during the time...

I'd personally recommend getting a full anti-virus kit such as "Internet Security" (Norton, Kaspersky, AVG etc.) which should include the whole package of all necessary programs which you will need, like firewall, anti-spyware and anti-virus. This is due to that the programs are basically built in as an unit that works together and which can make it a lot more userfriendly and most important of all, to get the programs easily updated.

I can also recommend if you are using Firefox to get an addon which is called WOT. This is very helpfull if you want to avoid sites that include spyware, phising etc.

A lot like my self think very different so it's all about the taste and belief.

The AV with the smallest footprint that still does the best job is NOD32 IMO. It is simple, but effective and uses very little resources. I install it on all the systems I fix and most people do not even know it's running. For the record, I've thoroughly tested pretty much all AVs out there for the fun of it, and came to the conclusion that Kaspersky and NOD32 were the best. KAV runs better on systems with more resources, while NOD32 does better on older systems. NOD32 may not be free, but it is well worth it. You can get the security suite if needed too, called ESET Smart Security.

No doubt Eset NOD32. Have been using that for 10 years from version 2.7 and now Version 4 of Eset Smart Security (ESS). Super light weight and deadly effective against any known and wild virus. With ESS, I can safely disable all Windows Defender and Windows Firewall including all the services related to them.

I also can recommend Comodo Internet Security - it free ,light and quite effective. It has intuitive GUI (even for computer-newbies) and very nice funcionality. I'm also using it on my gaming-machine (Vista x64 onboard) without any problems.
