Best antivirus for use with Vista on MiniNote

This is a discussion on Best antivirus for use with Vista on MiniNote within the Windows Vista forums, part of the Windows category; Avast is brilliant! I use it on the Mini and works fine, use Mcafee on the desktops & Servers though....

i'm using mcafee virusscan 2009 version... doesn't seem to be a memory hog, loads up fairly quickly (compared to vista). I've read good reviews about norton antivirus 2009, which is supposed to have improved performance drastically, with a small memory footprint. Might want to check it out. Independent AV tests on norton and mcafee have been favourable too.

On my pc, I use industrial strength Kaspersky though

I'll try to post the memory sizes of mcafee (via task manager) when I use the mininote...

Okay, this is what I did:

    1. Booted Mininote. Waited 3 minutes after everything is loaded.
    2. Started Task Manager (Vista), Select Processes tab
    3. Checked "Show processes from all users"
    4. No other programs are running. I have sidebar disabled as well.

I have the following for McAfee processes:

McAfee Integrated Security Platform - User - 1172K (This has dropped to 324K)
    McAfee Network Agent - System - 4008K
McAfee Personal Firewall Service - System - 2140K
McAfee Proxy Service Module - System - 968K
    McAfee Services - System - System - 2876K
    McAfee SystemGuards Service - System - 2000K
McAfee Update Manager Service - System - 2208K
    Total: 15372K

This is at idle. I've seen Update Manager go up to 70000K, when it's checking for updates.

China and HK are now the same In any case, the latest 2008 report on malware localities show that the USA is the worst culprit:

    http://www.sophos.com/pressoffice/ne...at-report.html

In decreasing order: US, China, Russia, Germany, South Korea, Ukraine, UK etc.

China was worst in 2007. Ultimately, it's a question of diligence, and getting a fairly reliable antivirus program.

There are independent AV comparison sites that checks a number of AV programs for their reliability in detecting malware:

Other than the instances of some anti virus softwares not picking up certain objects, some go for anti virus softwares because of ease of use or looks. We, on the other hand, need to think about performance.

We need people to run benchmarks before and after installation of anti virus software.

until now have been using sygate with my own rules , outpost is even better at the rules , if you want , or you can let it learn by itself .
    not heavy on resources

I have just installed Comodo and so far so good. No noticable change in performance when running or on boot up. I also ran a background scan and that didn't seem to cause any problems or slowness when surfing.
