Default HP 2133 won't work with any driver or Win OS

I'm loosing my mind over this.
I used to run my HP 2133 as a dual boot with Win XP and Ubuntu.
Then, one day, when I logged on to Win XP (I hadn't installed anything previous to this incident) the screen was scrambled. "That's wierd, it must be the screen resolution that has changed" I thought and booted up again, running VGA-mode. When I then logged on again, everything was fine except that Win XP was in VGA. I then changed the screen resolution to 1024x600 (which is the standard output for this modell). But then all I got was this gargled output like the screen res was too high.
I then thought that maybe Win XP was corrupt, installed it again (removing the old installation first), but the same thing happened. The driver I was using is from the HP website (VIA Graphics Driver for Microsoft Windows XP 6.14.10.0193).
So I proceeded to install Win 7, using the driver from the VIA homepage (p4m900(ce)-vn896(ce)-cn896(ce)_24-10-04p_bld2_win7_viawsetup_logod) (Even tried the Vista-driver on the HP website). And, you guessed it, the same thing happens. VGA is ok, but anything else is not. I'm starting to think it is something wrong with the hardware. I haven't tried Ubuntu in awhile (but it did work when I had my first Win XP install behaving strange) since I have to fix grub to do this, and frankly I haven't enough in me to do so. I spent about +10 hours on this so I'm starting to loose it.

    HELP!

I managed to hook up a monitor to my HP2133 and could from there change the screen resolution (using duplicate display option). My external monitor looks fine, but the internal still looks the same.

All of a sudden it works!
I just tried the same thing again.
Two displays resolution set to duplicate 1024x600 and then I pressed "Detect".
