Just got my Hp mini 2140 and was hoping to run it exclusively with windows 7, but being the stickler for safety, I opted to do a dual-boot XP-Win7(RC) instead.
After an easy installation including drivers, I found out that both systems were snappy, and did most tasks with aplomb--prettier at windows 7 side, of course.
Catch is, I noticed that win7 booted longer than XP (about 30 seconds longer) and was wondering if I was the only one experiencing this since no one else is complaining about win7 boot time.
So I'm throwing it out there, how long does your win7 boot? Or at the least, is it faster than XP? Is waking up from hibernate faster?
Would really appreciate your comments, thanks!

You have less than a minute, then 2... There's a huge gap in there between 60 and 120 seconds.
I had a video on youtube showing the 7 bootup times without tweaking on a 2133 with 2gig ram...
XP was 60sec, 7 was 70sec... But! 7 was totally usable and the boot was complete, where XP's boot time of 60sec still had the HDD slowly loading stuff, it looked booted but it was not 100% usable...
My Tiny 7 takes 15 secs from cold boot.
Any chance you could post the links? Or is that taboo here on the forums?Originally Posted by fauxpas
I'll time the boots, but I noticed win7 took a long time in the blank screen before login. Wondering maybe your faster boot time had something to do with a faster HD(mine's 5400rpm) or the VIA processor.
I would really appreciate getting the youtube links, pm?
And thanks!

Hmm, is that a blog/forum somewhere? I'm not aware of an HP advisory site. Google didn't help either.Originally Posted by mikez

Windows 7 has some disk cleanup features that are really aimed at solid state drives (SSD), called TRIM, that clean up the drive. There are a lot of optimization techniques that will enhance boot and application launch times. Power settings really affect performance in W7.
My Via C7-M-based system runs very well with a SSD and W7. I unfortunately have one of the older SSDs that does not take advantage of TRIM. Any SSD will, in time, slow down to the point of uselessness unless maintained (they do not really delete data until the space is need for re-write). SSDs will lighten you Mini, be cooler, faster, quieter and less of drain on the battery. So I guess what I'm saying is I really recommend Windows 7 on the Mini Nets, especially with a SSD, just be sure that the SSD supports TRIM.
