Default Has anyone upgraded to Windows 7?

What I mean by this is has anyone upgraded their XP or Vista installation to Windows 7 instead of doing a clean install?

I tried doing a clean install but was discouraged because of all the work I would have to do to reinstall all the software to get it to where I have it now. I use Acronis True Image so I am able to restore my system to its current state very easily.

I deleted Windows 7 and restored my Vista Business install, and was thinking of trying an upgrade of my Vista installation and see how that went. I am hoping someone else has tried this. If not, I will gladly break new ground...

I used upgrade b4 i figured how to clean install via recovery partition, i'll warn you now that it took 2 1/2 hours to complete the upgrade on my system this is due to it getting all the settings from the system and installed programs.

I noticed win7 found HP settings from somewhere and set alot of things back to HP defaults some good like hp optimized power and some bad like replacing my IE setup with HP's AOL settings.

Compared to the clean install its sluggish. Personaly i'd clean install everytime as you dont bring the built up crap from the old OS and you get to learn the new system when your customising the settings

    Default All the Windows!

Like everyone else, I got mine with Vista pre-installed. I downgraded it to XP creating a partition. I then installed windows 7 (beta) and do not seem to be having any thing worthwhile to report. Can you really upgrade XP to Windows 7? Legally, of course!

A clean install is always good to do now and then. Keeps your computer fast and if you get the odd trojan or nasty thing you don't even know you have it'll get rid of it...

Those of us who install a lot get into a routine, having all those apps on hand...

Windows 7 seems to have its own recovery image of sorts. I haven't had to use it yet but I have made a backup. Youtube search it. That way you can do your 7 install, install all your apps and then back it all up...

I upgraded rather than installed the first beta release of Win 7 from a Vista install I had on my HP 2133. No problem other than i had to eliminate Demonoid. Those who state you should always do a hard install have a rather simplistic view of the world. With 7 seperate installs in Win 7, plus all the varies pieces of application plus all the add-ons (Especially all those needed to get Adobe Photoshop running like I like it!!!), an upgrade sounds better and better.

Haven't done an upgrade since the first, but I'm planning on upgrading to 7057, just haven't gotten around to it yet.

Nope. It's close, and MUCH closer than Vista, but it's still a little slower than XP.

I have never upgraded from one operating system to another. Rather doing this I always prefer the full and complete installation. In past I was using Windows XP and that was good experience. Currently I am working with Windows 7 and still no problem with it.

I think that clean install is not that an big problem to move towards window 7. It's always best to do a clean install when moving from one version of the operating system to another. Take proper advice from experienced person and again try to do clean installation.
