    Default Windows 7 beta 1 KILLED 2133 Mini-note!

After installing Windows 7 Beta 1 I got into serious trouble. My 2133 Mini has worked perfectly for several months running Vista, XP Pro, Tiny XP and the Pre-Beta of Windows 7. But after installing the official Beta 1 it started to freeze like in this thread: http://www.hp2133guide.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=804

Now I have tried to update BIOS to latest version and to install Vista graphics driver and set Performance to High Performance, and also enabled the Fan when on power in BIOS. And for about 45 minutes ago it turned black and won't start.

Is there someone who has had similar problems? Someone with a solution? Or must I leave it for warranty repair?

I have worked with computers for 20 years and have NEVER seen a software tha can cause a computer to die... And I normally like Microsoft....

Oh yes, I dual boot with Tiny XP as well, but today it even hung/froze once in XP, that has never happened before the installation of Windows 7 Beta 1 yesterday evening.

    PLEASE ADVICE!

well what type of freeze is it? a freeze that suggests an overheat or freeze upon bootup?

does it do it in safe mode? have you tried forcing an unexpected reformat (thanks IT Crowd!)?

I killed it by using magic disc/iso maybe its some of your software killing the beta?

    cheers

    It's STONE DEAD!

No disk light, no display light, no BIOS screen, no WLAN light, no disk spinning and no fan spinning. DEAD.

The only evidence that I turn it on is the power light. After a minute or so the fan starts to spin as well, otherwhise quiet as the grave.

So I can not reinstall or anything. I tried to remove the keyboard, memory card (SDRAM inside) and the hard disk, but when I boot its the same result as with the components installed. No life what so ever.

    RIP.

It could be coincidental that it died at about the same time. Its unlikely Windows 7 would kill the mini-note.

When I had a windows install from a USB I left the USB as my first boot device, and that was OK till I accidentally booted with arandom USB thumb drive in it. Then it booted to a blackscreen... As unlikely as it may be, do you have a USB stick or SD card in it at all?

It is possible in this case -
Your processor is a VIA C7M Ultra Low Power _not_ an Intel product.
The programming registers for clock and frequency control are different.

So if the Win7-Beta had only been tested on the major chip lines and
not tested (until you did it) on the VIA C7M . . . No telling if they got
the cpu's internal controls setup correctly.

Pat yourself on the back for finding a Win7 bug (and report it to MS) -
Then ship the machine back to HP.

Oh well, UPS is picking it up tomorrow.. Strange that others can run Windows 7 without problems though. Also strange that my Pre Beta ran just fine.

Anyway, I probably won't run the Beta 1 on it again when I get it back.

It may have just been its time to over-cook the voltage regulator
and have nothing to do with the software running at the time.

Some of the HP-2133 machines have been doing that since they
started to ship - not many, but it is a known failure.
