Default Ubuntu Remix, desktop is larger than screen. CAUSE FOUND.

I've installed Ubuntu remix on my hp2133 mini (the chipset is VN896NB and 8237S SB). It installed fine and worked fine till some updates and drivers were found and installed. Then the 'boot screen' and the desktop became larger that the physical screen - it extends to the right and below the screen. Since the problem appeared, only once it has booted into proper screen mode. And the problem reappeared after the next boot.
Does any one know what causes the problem and how to solve it?

Surely you have the 2133 with 1024x600 screen (model FU344 - check the model on the stick under the laptop). In the past there was a bug that makes so when you install the wireless driver.

I've found a page which says...

NOTE: In fact, these two drivers (Chrome 9 and Broadcom WiFi) seem to interact and cause problems in some cases, most frequently on the WSVGA (1024×600) Mini-Note. The symptom is that the display appears to be just fine until the Broadcom WiFi driver is installed, and then on the next reboot either the display has the wrong resolution (often 640×480) or it is simply black. It appears that when this happens, it can be avoided by adding a line to the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file, in 'Section “Device”', with 'Option “PanelSize” “1024×600”'.

LOrgOfTheCoffe, You are right! As soon as I turned the wireless thing off and rebooted, screen resolution / desktop size became normal. And I haven't changed my xorg.conf file. So the cause of my problem is found, now lets find solution. I'll keep you posted.
My model number, interestingly, is FU337. Probably its a special edition for Russia or something.

P.S. Apparently, there is no xorg.conf file anymore as X server no longer needs it. My therapist says its a positive change.

that means all is fixed for you?
I do hate post like yours don't work? mine does but with nebooks it might be wired as the should be essentially the same inside.....

i have got the 1,2Ghz Model with 1280x768 screnn and everything worked out of the box, apart from w-lan i had to aktivate the STA driver (working ) and then switch to b43 which didn't work initially but after some w-lan switch on at boot it recognized the card and is working now as normal ever since.

my only concern is a badly bootloop and i don't know what causes it, i used a script after that from the ubuntu forum to update the ALSA Audio driver to the latest verion since then its not that frequent but it does bootloop sometimes when switched on from cold.
(and no the fan/cooling is oki it is coming from some point of the bot sequence)
