Hi I just tried this with Linux Mint 8 (based on Ubuntu 9.10) that just came out last weekend.
Worked first time!
Just for reference I ran glxgears on several pcs jsut to compare
Asus eeepc701 (running easypeasy1.5 based on ubuntu 9.04): ~500 frames in 5 seconds
HP2133 (Linux Mint 8 ): ~1500 frames in 5 seconds
home build #1 using nvidia Geforce FX5500 & proprietary driver: ~4000 frames in 5 seconds
home build #2 using nvidia GeFoorce 6100 & proprietary driver: ~5500 frames in 5 seconds
I would have thought this is not bad performance for the 2133. However:
1. BBC iplayer performace is terrible (www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer flash based TV catchup - but UK only -sorry)
2. I cant work out how to activate the Ubuntu 3d effects - the system goes looking for drivers and give up (of course - it's Via) Maybe there is another way. ....
3. Also I can't get the external VGA port to work - all I get is a black screeen. I tried the previous method with the activedevice lcd, crt in xorg.conf but no luck this time
Is there anything else to do?

Worked for me on a fresh install of 9.10 Karmic, with latest kernel updates as of 11th Dec 09.
Thanks all for contributing.

Cheers to everyone who has contributed to this thread, I am now coming to you from my ubuntu 9.10 2133 mininote!
I get exactly the same issue in Youtube, and anything with flash.
I wonder if there are some other drivers or tweaks that we need to do to get this running sweet, anyone have any ideas?
You have no idea how long I have tried to get 3D effects on my HP2133 ! The above worked for me on Mint 8 (based on Ubuntu 9.10) Thank You!![]()
Seems like the binary xorg driver does not work with Ubuntu Lucid 10.04 beta.
The 2.6.31 kernel driver compiles and installs just fine on 2.6.32 kernel though.Code:dlopen: /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers/via_drv.so: undefined symbol: resVgaShared
To bad I dont have sources for that via_drv. would have been recompiled in notime.
A beer to the one who finds a recompiled version that works with newer xorg.

HI. I was able to make it work on 9.10, but i was trying to do the same on 10.4, but the link with the 2d and 3d xorg.conf is not available anymore. Please, could someone with the 1024x600 2133 put the xorg.conf somewhere in the net again?

first of all, files are still availible for free here:
Utilizzare i driver jaunty per karmic su hp 2133 (Linux e dintorni)
edit the xorg.conf just with your res. that should work
Now did any one get it to work under Ubuntu 10 Lucid?
I am running the new Ubuntu Unr and it is fast! with 3D support it should fly as i fell like the open chrome driver doesn't support 3D
thats inside the wiki:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/OpenChrome
@ncopa:
http://linux.via.com.tw/support/downloadFiles.action isn't the source code on the right?

Thank you. The files you say, are available from the original post, but the xorg.conf wasn't. The broken link leaded to 2 xorg.conf, one for 2d with accel, and one with 3d. Tomorrow I'll try the one in the italian web you provide and I will post the results. Thank you very much.
Hi, glad to become a part of the HP mini community.
Here's my problem (noobish, I suppose): I'm using the italian link, but I'm stuck at the part with gedit opening the /usr/bin/compiz, it's a problem with the character coding and it can't open it. I've done this step a couple of months before on 9.10, and will be very happy if I can get compiz working on Lucid.
