X11? What's that?

Hi there,
thanks for your work. I tried to push my luck on F12 with these new drivers, but they do not work.
The drm module compiles and loads just fine, but there seems to be a issue between X and the precompiled via_drv.so . I am a little bit puzzled because I thougt the X versions in U9.10 and F12 to be the same.
But anyway the error is:
If anyone had an idea, I'd appreciate it (Mikez, Who???). Maybe I´ll go back to F11 and try them there ... I don't know yet.Code:[root@hp2133 ~]# cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log | grep via (II) LoadModule: "via" (II) Loading /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers/via_drv.so dlopen: /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers/via_drv.so: undefined symbol: resVgaShared (EE) Failed to load /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers/via_drv.so (II) UnloadModule: "via" (EE) Failed to load module "via" (loader failed, 7)

Yes. This is the error when you try to start X.Originally Posted by mikez

So, since Ubuntu has released a new kernel 2.6.31-15, has anyone tried it with the 3D drivers? Is it safe to install? Is a recompile needed? Will it work?
Nowhere to download 574-u904-n.tar.gz.
where is it?
Also, my wifi doesn't work. The wifi switch light is always in red. "ifconfig -a" outputs

Exactly as ncopa stated in the first post in this thread, the 574-u904-n.tar.gz file can be downloaded from this thread:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php...&postcount=260
Just download it from one of the mirrors at the end of the page, the first one in that list should work. You might have to wait for a couple of seconds for your download to actually start, but it should download just fine.
As for the WiFi, I am not sure what could be wrong. I followed the instructions in this thread to solve it for me:

One more comment to the ncopa's first post: always use sodu when there is a "permissions denied" issue at each step.
I did one step wrong - I copied and pasted the xorg.conf with notepad in Windows and just copied it to ubuntu9.10 box at /etc/X11/. After all steps there was no gnome GUI, then I guessed gedit must be used to make the xorg.conf in Unix format. After reboot I logged in and used VI to cut off all ^M from /etc/X11/xorg.conf. After saving it the gnome GUI was started right away.
About the wifi, one more comment to add:
This link

doesn't mention how to deal with the b43 driver found on the live CD.
There is a driver .deb file under a directory called b43-fwcutter on the live CD, you need to install it first with command:
sudo dpkg -i xxxxx.deb
then do downloading and following steps:
sudo b43-fwcutter -w /lib/firmware wl_apsta-3.130.20.0.o
tar xfvj broadcom-wl-4.80.53.0.tar.bz2
sudo b43-fwcutter --unsupported -w /lib/firmware broadcom-wl-4.80.53.0/kmod/wl_apsta_mimo.o
remember: after reboot, the wifi switch light was still in red, I had to turn it on MANUALLY to make it in blue. Then click the desktop up-right corner network config tool, wifi spots are already there to choose.
