Default About the Via Chrome 9 Driver for 9.04

Thanks... here I start this post about the Via Chrome 9 Drivers for Ubuntu 9.04... I read and read about this drivers and always the same result the drivers don't work without doing some tweaks on the Xorg.conf file (a custom xorg file from a boy called Who)

Well there are my experiences: installing the driver on a fresh install of 9.04 and adding the xorg from who the driver works well, but when you update Ubuntu the X get down (incompatibility whit kernel superior to -11) I wrote to via BruceChang@via.com.tw and he says that get the driver working on kernel -12 and -14 you must build the DRM with the source included in the driver package (I'm n00b... so I don't really know how to do that... but I wanna learn - can you recommend some web for How - To for n00bs or someting where I can learn more about tweak linux distros) apparently he is working on a version of the driver for 9.10 and as I can understand him the way to get that is this:

    "1. 2D, 3D: Use the package for Ubuntu 9.04.
    2. DRM: I have submitted this patch for upstream as attached file. This is very important because this DRM rebuild need to be done when the kernel change before this patch is merged mainline.
But the compiz seems to have a problem according to their bug tracking system. I can send my build if you like to have a try:" (If someone wanna this patch tell how to attach a file or a e-mail to send it)

And finally I haven't read about this... but when you install the driver and don't modify the xorg.conf that the isntall script create, you can get the X - server working if you connect an external monitor, yes the VGA - out works (I connect and old CRT, i don't know if a LCD will work), the CRT display a normal image (it is recognized, brand, size, resolution, everything works well). But the internal LCD don't work so well, it show the resolution of the CRT and the colours get weird (for a moment I think that the LCD get broken)...

well that was my experience with the Via driver, for now I stick with the default xorg.conf (no driver working... they are installed, but not loaded...)... if someone get the thing working with a Ubuntu fully update can help me with an step by step guide

    Thanks... from a n00b

    Default external Display...

    Hey,
sounds as if we will get working "Randr-Support" for the next release. That are good news. But I wont mess with unstable Pre-Beta drivers yet. I'm actually happy with my fresh installed Ubuntu 9.04 with via-binaries.
