All done! I got the wifi working (by using the prop drivers). Everything seems to work ok. Again, I'm not that impressed with the speed of things. I would have thought it would have been a bit quicker.

Do you think a video driver update will improve things? Can you think of any tips to speed things up?
After doing lots of updates, my system shuts down VERY fast with no issues. The startup is a bit slow and I don't like the boot loader setup (selecting Ubuntu and then selecting which kernel).
Overall, I do like having Ubuntu around but it needs to be a bit quicker. When I had SLED 10 on my netbook, it was very impressed with the speed. Now, XP seems to be a bit quicker than Ubuntu!? If I can re-partition my HDD, I'll get 9.04 and give that a go. Can anyone comment on the speed of 9.04 and 9.10?
9.04 startup time when I installed it on ext3 partition was 30 seconds on ext4 was 40 seconds. Can anyone comment on the speed of 9.04 and 9.10?Can anyone comment on the speed of 9.04 and 9.10?
Boot time of 9.10 on ext4 partition was in my case about 1 minute
You really, really, really *do not* want to run ext4 on anything that can "power off" without warning.
That includes netbooks that will "power off" on a "low battery" event.
The reason:
ext4 (and xfs and others) try to gain speed by keeping a very large portition
of the file system meta-data in RAM. If you suddenly shut off the machine, bye, bye, meta-data - your file system, your files, etc.
The file system will be so corrupted that the ext4 fsck can't recover it.
Do not run ext4 or xfs on a machine that might "power off"!
And I was wondering why yesterday my filesystem went to f... himself after suddenly shot down
PS.
Thanks didn't know that
I've been quite disappointed with Ubuntu 9.10 on the 2133
9.04 worked out of the box fine, wireless picked up through the propriety hardware drivers tool.
I did a fresh install as I needed to do a rebuild anyway.
Wireless drivers do NOT appear on the same tool. I thought Ubuntu was supposed to get easier to use with each release? (Had some issues with it on my desktop too, from what I've read 9.10 has really been subpar)
Can anyone tell me where I can find the driver and how easy it is to install?
Mine is a KX867AA#ABU
I installed Ubuntu 9.10 on mine (the 1024x600 model) and I have the same problem I had with Ubuntu 9.04: the screen resolution gets wrong when it has the wireless on. Anybody else have this problem? Any solution?
Ubuntu 9.04 did never work out ofthe box for me, and the problems is screen resolution.
It starts up fine, a couple of times and then suddenly after a logout or reboot the screen shows wrong resolution at loginprompt.
The problem appears that the loginprompt is moved to the right, when you log in the resolution is 1024 768 and not 1024 x 600 wich works fine with live usb boot and first time of installation until you logoutreboot.
There must be a easy fix to this because it works fine with usb live boot and the first time the computer is installed, the 1024 x 600 was in the sceen menu under administration section.
Once it fail:s then the 2024 x 600 is not in the menu.
I could do 3 reboots before it appear the question is.
What makes the computer suddenly enter wrong mode.
The problem appears for me in 9.04 and 9.10
