What interface specifically are you wanting? There is a netbook-launcher package in the repositories. Search for that in Synaptic if that's what your looking for.

Hi. I have Ubuntu on my 2133 all running fine and dandy. I want a net book type interface for the system as I want to just use this laptop on the train etc, and like the look. I am completely new to Linux, how do i go about installing this? Can it just be installed with Ubuntu? I have searched quite a bit and have found that Intrepid and Jaunty are the type of thing i'm after. Seems quite complicated!
Thanks

Just FYI, I couldn't get netbook-launcher to work on Intrepid. It requires both 3D and xrandr, but 3D VIA driver randr is not ready for anything and Openchrome without 3D is just too slow.
Good to know, I never tried it as I'm happy with a "normal" interface.Originally Posted by burlap
If you're adventurous you can get Doc's 3D drivers (openChrome) or try my kernel I've compiled that has 3D support and see if it works with either of them.

do you have a link to your 3D support??
Where are people getting this "openChrome 3D support" nonsense? openChrome does not support 3D on Chrome9 chipsets. If you don't believe me, look through the source code, browse the wiki, or ask the developers.
According to the developers, Chrome9 3D support is at least a year away. I find this to be wishful thinking, as nobody is currently working on a Mesa driver. Thomas Hellstrom's recent TTM work does not apply to Chrome9 chipsets.

If you mean the one you reported 55fps in another thread, there is no point. I have 80-90fps with regular intrepid kernel and SVN openchrome, but the fact I can run glxgears doesn't mean I have anything close to 3D (Turmlos is right about it, and I think that one year is just too optimistic, I think I'll have 2150 or even 2160 before there is a proper chrome9 driver with xrandr and 3d support).Originally Posted by earlycj5
OTOH, I wanted to use netbook-launcher with the 1024x600 screen, now I have 1280x768 (technical support works in mysterious ways) where regular interface works just fine.
That is nonsense. You can get that kind of fps with Mesa's software rasterizer. His 'glxinfo' output would be useful.Originally Posted by earlycj5
My mistake. I'm sorry I've tried to help the community here.Originally Posted by burlap
Like I said my disclaimer is "it works for me", I'm looking at it now on my 2133 using an OpenGL screensaver. I've seen it when a screensaver such as this is run on this machine with no 3D support, there is a difference.
Doc's reporting 100+ FPS with his openChrome if you don't like my kernel version.
Next time I'll know to keep my efforts to myself since there's no point.
Oh, glxinfo | grep render returns Direct Rendering: yes on my kernel...
