Default How to choose Linux distro?

Is there a Linux Distro (besides the SLED 10 adapted for the Mini 2133) that works more or less out of the box with the Mini 2133?

I'm about to install Linux on a new partition om my computer, and I don't mind adding packages for Chrome9 or WiFi after the installation is complete, but as far as I can see there's a lot that needs to be done to activate graphics and other hardware. And it needs dull manual reconfiguration of setup files.

Is there a major difference between Ubuntu 8.10, Open SUSE 11.1, Fedora 10, Mandriva 2009 and Debian 5.0 in terms of Mini 2133 compatibility?

It seems, that ubuntu (with some small tweaking) should work for you - read this thread: http://www.hp2133guide.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=1089

Default And Fedora 10, perhaps?

Thank you jakubd!

According to a post in the thread you pointed to, Fedora 10 will also work pretty much out of the box. At least if you follow the instructions on http://hp2133.umsw.de/ and install from external DVD (which happens to be my preferred solution).

Thanx again!

If you want a distro that works more or less out of the box I would stick with Ubuntu 8.10.
Check out my guide on how to install.

another vote for Ubuntu 8.10, tried a couple of others, settled on Ubuntu as everything just works, with little hassle.

I would recommend Xubuntu. Has all the advantages of Ubuntu wrt hardware support, etc, but is snappier on the hardware

You will still need to follow https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LaptopTestingTeam/HP2133 and https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LaptopTestin...splayConfig810

FreeBSD 7.1-RELEASE (Kind of on your own here. Hasn't been done much)
Fedora 10 http://hp2133.umsw.de/
Ubuntu 8.10 http://www.hp2133guide.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=1136 (I generally follow Luvit's line of install options however his links are all borked)

I've had all working on it. I generally settle back on Ubuntu because the others take more work to get everything running and Ubuntu 8.10 everything "just works" out of the box. A few tweaks need to be done if you want Via Chrome and 3D and compiz working but other then that, it's a great drop in replacement for any OS.

Not sure what is happening with that - -
hp-umpc.com/luvit
is alive and well still, but he evidently hasn't had time to move anything onto it.
(The one file that might show up is just a test file of mine from another system - not his.)

The chat-server is still alive and well also:

Any jabber client can connect, it is a public conference room.
