For the *.rpm based distributions, you will need to tweak the font paths of the config files you find here for *buntu.

Aside from dealing with the kernel version string VS module version string - -
that should be the only difference. But even *buntu users have to do that.

Right guys I've gone back to Ubuntu 8.10 and need help now. I willl tell you what I've done so far but I need someone to give me simple and clear step by step instructions on how install Compiz and the latest VIA graphics drivers as I've attempted it several times already without success. An instruction saying following the Readme that comes with the graphics drivers is no good to me as the Readme makes no sense. Here's what I've done so far:

    F.04 BIOS installed
Ubunt0 8.10 Desktop Edition downloaded and installed using F4 and selecting Safe graphics mode
So what do I do from here please, step by step.

    Many thanks

According to your earlier post, you have already given up on the drivers.

If you have changed your mind - gather (and post) the basic information:
The kernel version you are running (command line: uname -a)
The size of your LCD - either 1280x768 or 1024x600
What the predominately distinguishing symptom is of what is wrong.

The more informative the question, the better the answer.
