    I need some help!!

I tried downgrading just like it was shown in this thread but when I boot from my USB Stick/ CD (I tried both) I get into FreeDOS and the process begins, but after a while it just crashes and shuts down immediately. Win XP works fine but I just for some reason can't change the version of my BIOS...
Anybody got an idea what to do?

Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

    Default F.05 vs. F.04

I see that you're recommending F.04 Bios. The latest revision on the HP site is F.05. Are you saying we shouldn't use that Bios?

    Typo? F.06
    OR F.04
too many problems seem to be associated with the F.05 version.

HP's website offers f.05, but f.06 is available by using HP Softpaq Download Manager.

F.05 did not allow an easy installation of ubuntu.
F.04 was flawless, then you can upgrade your bios back to the latest version...
there is no feedback, yet to determine if f.06 will allow an easy install of ubuntu.

Default Re: install ubuntu 8.10 w/ bios F.04

    Hum...
I downgrade my BIOS to f.04 and tried to load Ubuntu Desktop using Unetbootin flash drive. The ubuntu desktop comes up, but when it goes to install, the font goes flakey and the next install screen is hung. It has a title bar, but rest is blank, and has some broken graphics here and there. No mouse. That's as far as I can get. I'm going to burn a CD and try that tonight in case that is a contributor.

    Yep,
Worked with CD, but now all I get is 640 x 480 as a resolution pick. I assume I need to upgrade X drivers now. Also, the network stuff is greyed out. Not sure why.
