    Default Webcam

    Hi,

I can't seem to get the webcam to work with the new via drivers. Using cheese all I get is a blank white box. It works fine with the vesa drivers though. I'm using BIOS version F.04 and I follow the instructions above.

    Anyone got any ideas?

    Thanks in advance.

Yep, cheese seems to break with the new drivers and Compiz

luvcview doesn't break, though. Skype neither. Sad about cheese ...

I had the same problem with HP2133 (FU337EA#ABD) until someone gave me their xorg.conf. - it looks kind of messed-up but it works for me without having changed anything except "enabling" RandR in it.

    Default f.04 bios

Hi Iuvit, thanks for the guides

I could not get the bios ISO to work so here is a link to the file on HP's site

    http://tinyurl.com/87rmnh

You can use it to create a floppy a usb disk or a CD iso
I used a usb disk with no problem

    Cheers Guy

    Hi,

I've been battling to install kubuntu 8.10 on my new mini for a while now and am currently somewhere south of nowhere.

I have no external CD drive so I've been using Unetbootin to create bootable USB sticks.

I first tried the Kubuntu desktop installer but it froze despite adding the xforcevesa option although I wasn't convinced I was doing it properlly.

I next tried the command line installer on the alternative iso and got all the way through, but on rebooting I got a invalid partition table error. I am running bios F .05 so do you think that will be the source of this problem?

If so, have you any advice for how I get your bios flashing iso on to my USB stick?

I would be enormously grateful for any help.

    Hi firebadger,

I had almost the same problem. Getting this stuff on an bootable USB Stick and installing this - impossible. (In the meantime, I found that it obviously the combination with the F05 Bios. I have now downgraded to F04).

what I did: I used Unetbootin and took the net install for Kubuntu 8.10. Since this is all done in Text mode, I could finish up the install and then specifify the xforcevesa option in Grub.

Before, I already got stuck when the Mininote tried to switch to graphics mode....

    Hope this helps.

    Regards,
    Neptun23

Default also should work with F0.2

    Hi there,

i have F0.2 on my machine. I have VIA 3D working as everything else. The only difference is, that I use Fedora 10, not Ubuntu. But both distros are not too far apart technically/kernel speaking.

So I am not sure, that the BIOS version has that much impact of getting the drivers to run.

How did you get 3D working on this machine with Fedora? Just curious, I'm sorta wanting to try another distro but the fact that Via has (had?) only released drivers for Ubuntu and SLED kept me running Ubuntu.
    Cheers,
