For those of who've had your head in the sand recently, the recent big news regarding HP is that they have acquired mobile company Palm, creators of mobile devices such as the Palm Pre and Palm Pixi, and pioneer of their own WebOS mobile operating system.
With this acquisition, HPs plans on tablet devices has been re-evaluated, and there is currently a rumour, as reported by TechCrunch that HP maybe be giving up on their Windows 7 "Slate" device, which we've actually seen in action in the past. If this is true, which it is likely, it will e because HP want to really push their newly acquired WebOS into their mobile market. It was also stated that the power consumption of the Intel chipset they use has had some contributing factors to their abandonment of Windows.
This hopefully doesn't mean we won't see the other planned HP Slate devices, such as those equipped with Google Chrome and Android. Paired with the cancellation of the Courier, it looks like Microsoft lost a large chunk of the tablet market today.
