A good tip for getting rid of a SMT passive without specialist equipment is to cover it in a big blob of solder (big enough that it contacts both pads at once), it will then typically just pop off onto the iron.

Of course heated tweasers are quicker and can get the part off without ruining it but they are a bit pricy unless you are doing it regulally.

Hi Twain, thanks for your tutorial, but something is wrong on my side.
I moved 10k resistor from red to green area as you described, but frequences can't be changed by SetFSB 2.2.130.96 [strike]and CPU freqence is always on 798MHz +/- and never can't be higher now. Even at playing HD movie, CPU still ticking on 798MHz and not on 1,6GHz[/strike].
If i try to set SetFSB setting according to you .. 150.1/300.2/199.5/39.8MHz and then i click on "Set FSB" button, then settings return back to 133/etc and nothing happend.
Can you identify, where can be a problem?

As you can see on pictures above, settings over SetFSB not working for me and i still don't know, if it's problem of hardware or wrong settings of software, because i am a little newbie with settings of SetFSB.

And i discovered new symptom, when i enter to BIOS, then after 20s computer hangs.

    Hi there

Check the empty footprint where the resistor was before with an ohmmeter. Probably some tin is shortening the pads.

Otherwise try to get the same SETFSB version I use (.128.).

Due to the circumstances I really can't imagine that the mod will work only on some machines but not on all.

Twain, I resoldered resistor again and now it works!
Evidently bad contact between resistor + tin + mainboard.
    Thanks very much from Czech.

No, the mod is only applicable on the HP 2140. The HP mini 1000 has another motherboard. Eventhough the details might be similar or equal.
