Default Power Consumption Options on 2140

My 2140 came with HP bluetooth. My question deals with the realtive power consumption of the items I may only occassionally use.

I do not use the expresscard or sd slots. Do they consume power if unused? Can they be turned off until needed? How?

I use a bluetooth mouse much of the time, but when on the road in "lite" mode I don't. Does bluetooth, if unused consume power? Can it be turned off until needed? How?

I use wifi only when on the road, and then only when available as I have a tether to my Treo. Does wifi, if unused, consume power? Can it be turned off until needed? How? Can it be turned off independently of bluetooth? How?

Since everything I luv about my 2140 is "small" and "efficient" I'm just curious how much any of these parttime functions really affect battery life.

    Thanks in advance.

Yes, everything uses power even when it's not being used. How much? Not much. The express card slot, sd slot and bluetooth all together probably use less than one watt while on, but not in use. The wifi probably a little more, but I just leave all of these on for ease of use and they only effect the battery life by maybe 15 minutes over the course of the 6 hours I get out of the 6 cell battery.

If you want to turn them off, the express card slot and sd slot can be turned off in the BIOS, but you'll have to reboot to turn them back on. The wifi and bluetooth can be turned on and off at will with the nifty little slider on the right side of the front of the 2140, but they can't be controlled independantly, they're either both on or both off. Wifi and bluetooth can also be disabled in the BIOS, but the sliding switch is much easier.

Hello floridarandy, the bluetooth can turn off independently of the wifi, download this aplication, HP wireless assistant ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp34501-35000/sp34510.exe and try. It works for me. Bye.
