It depends on which LCD you have.

If you have the standard screen, your absolute max would be either 1024x576 or 1024x600.

If it's the HD screen, you can go into the display properties through control panel and, on the settings tab, slide it down to 1024x768 from its usual 1366x768 resolution.

That's why I went with the upgrade to the HD screen; running below 1024x768 was just not even an option I was willing to consider.

Better is a relative term. It is higher resolution, but on such a small screen it can actually be harder to read. Windows 7 has a much better interface and scaling options than XP, so that helps. There is such a thing as too small a font on these things...

I have a high def screen on my HP 2140 and it works very nice. Gives me a ton of screen space.
