    Default Newbie question: touchpad scrolling

I am fairly well versed to desktop computers but I am a newbie when it comes to notebooks. Just got my first hp mini notebook... a hp mini 210. Using and learning the touchpad is a challenge but I am slowly getting the hang of it. Right now my biggest issue is that I can not get the vertical scroll to work. I have been sweeping my finger along the right side of the touch pad with no result.

I would very much appreciate any advise on how to use a touchpad gesture to do a vertical scroll. I am wondering if I need to change anything in the control panel under the mouse hardware... but have checked into it and nothing jumps out at me.

Any advise would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

Ok... I did say that I was a newbie to this touchpad world.:-) This not being able to scroll vertically was driving me crazy.. so I contacted support via the 800 #... and I got the help I needed ( very patient gentleman ). It seems I need to press down the left click button and then side scroll. I honestly had no idea!! But this works... and I am happy, happy, happy. :-)
    Love my little mini 210!!!

I just got my HP Mini 210 few days ago. About the vertical scroll, you can use two fingers to slide down on the touchpad, and you can scoll vertically. You can also do the same to scoll horizontally, simply slide two fingers horizontally. It's great and easy.

The touchpad also supports zoom in and zoom out. Just do it like how you do it on the iPhone.
It also supports rotate left and right. Just use two fingers to make a rotation on the touchpad, and the picture you are viewing will rotate to the directions you want.

It might be hard when you use if for the first time. But after getting used to it, it's great! Love my Mini 210.

As it's been a couple months already, you've probably already gotten used to two-fingered scrolling, but I find it awkward. Here is how you turn on edge scrolling. (Assuming you're using windows 7 starter. XP might be a bit different)
    • Go to the control panel, then to Hardware and Printers, then click Mouse under the Devices and Printers Heading.
    • Under the Device Setting tab, click Settings. This dialog box includes tons of options for adjusting your touchpad properties and gestures.
    • Click Scrolling, then One-Finger Scrolling, and tick the boxes next to "Enable vertical scrolling" and "Enable horizontal scrolling"
    • You can now scroll with a single finger on the right or bottom edges of your touchpad.
I also like to enable "chiralmotion scrolling" which is explained in the dialog box. There's even a little practice maze to help you get used to it.

Overall, Synaptics did a great job with giving lots of options for gestures. I just wish it wasn't so hard to dig up the menu for enabling everything. Hope this helps!
