Default Maximising processor speed on HP2133

    Hi,

I bought the HP2133 very cheaply last year as a way of experimenting with Linux ... eventually I got fed up with this and installed Windows 7 Home (purchased, legit version) and now use it as a very useful portable netbook. I have upgraded the RAM to 2GB, otherwise everything is the same.

I have just reinstalled everything as it had started to run slowly, and I think Kaspersky 2011 was to blame - I'm now using the free version of AVG and all seems fine.

When I checked on the performance WEI, I was a bit surprised to see that the scores were:

    Processor - 1.2
    Memory (RAM) - 3.4
    Graphics - 2.0
    Gaming graphics - 2.1
    Primary hard disk - 5.2

While I know the processor was a bit limited, I didn't realise that is was the weakest link by so great a margin. My question (as a complete amateur in this) is whether / how I can maximise processor speed and get my 2133 running as fast and efficiently as possible? I realise replacing the processor probably isn't an option, so wonder what I can / should do to improve things. The computer is a little slow but runs Win7 and Office 2010 fine.

Any ideas? In simple terms, please ;-)

When i used windows 7 on my 2133 it seemed to work well enough, i would recomend you change antivirus and use windows security essentials (just google it, its free) as far as free antiviruses i think that is the best one and its really light on the machine.

The easiest thing you can do to speed up windows is disable the pretty effects (such as transparency if your windows version has them), you could look at the first tips on this page

Speed Up Windows 7 - Ultimate Guide To Make Windows 7 Blazing Fast!!!

The first ones are easy and can probably help you, just stop when you see the more complicated tips (like registry stuff) because the are in fact more complicated and can mess up the operating system.

Update your drivers by going to www.via.com.tw

I would guess your graphics driver is a little out of date.
