    Default SSD Options

I'm looking at replacing my 160GB HD with an SSD.

I've looked at these two on NewEgg:

OCZ OCZSSDMPEP-64G Mini PCIe 64GB Mini PCIe PATA Internal Solid state disk (SSD)
(Newegg.com - OCZ OCZSSDMPEP-64G Mini PCIe 64GB Mini PCIe PATA Internal Solid state disk (SSD) - SSD)

    and
Kingston SSDNow V Series SNV425-S2/64GB 2.5" 64GB SATA II Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)
(Newegg.com - Kingston SSDNow V Series SNV425-S2/64GB 2.5" 64GB SATA II Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) - SSD)

I like the Mini PCIe b/c it would just plug in the PCIe slot on the side of my HP 2133. But not sure if it can be set as boot drive. With this I could keep my HD in as a data disk.

With the 2.5" SSD, do I need any adapters to fit in the same spot the current HD is in?

so my questions are any thoughts on the two options above?

the mini pcie doesn't work, it uses USB or SATA over mini pci-e slot with a different pinout

the slot looks the same but it would only fit a mini pcie style slot with SSD pinout where no w-lan card will ever run in

I got a Lexar Expresscard SSD 8GB, slot in the side, install ubuntu, set bot order, booting and running fine. Unfurtunately its only 33m/s read, not the SSD speeds we've come to expect from 'real' SSDs.

I'd advise anyone looking for an SSD to get one of the fast SATA ones, or if you want a cheap (slow) option use an SD card! It'd be about the same speed as the expresscard i got and smaller and you'd still have the expresscard free.

I'm booting ubuntu off my SSD and have a 2gig sd card as my swap drive, runs nicely but nothing like a real fast SSD

    and your internal hard drive?
that Expresscard SSD is what type? USB Interface or pci-e x1? the cheaper ones are rip off as the use the usb connection as interface and the more expensive ones i thought wouldn't boot due to the fact that the needed their own bios like raidcard and i on't think that the mini supports that in it's slot but thanks for the info ^^

btw. i will go with some 32GB SSD Sata half-size 2,5" from e-bay which is nude on the outside and used as OEM drive on expensive laptops it isn't fast but not slow in any way will report back here
