Bought the EXACT same lot, and have had NO troubles at all yet,

It seems Newegg received in mid May the worry-free editions

    Default 2133 parts shortage.

Mine went away when it was only 10 days old.

I sent it off to HP thinking that a replacement from the supplier would likely have the same 'fault'.

The unit was picked up, by UPS, on 4th Nov. I was provided with a HP URL to track the fix and a UPS URL to track the delivery.

On Monday, 10th I received an email to my Office address. HP reported that there was a delay for parts and provided a new URL. This new URL goes no-where, and the old one had not been updated. I called them; the lady at the repair centre in Poland said that I'd have the unit back by the 13th.

I've been out of the office. No unit & no new URL. So, called again.

HP aren't going to get the parts until the 21st. So probably get my laptop back by the end of the month... maybe I should have gone for the 2day replacement from the supplier.

    -UPDATE-

UPS should be getting back to me for tomorrow (19th) !! :-)

    Default HP 2133 motherboard failure

My HP 2133 mini-note is only a few months old and it has just died.

The blue power light comes on but it won't start up, the screen is black, there are no sounds and the orange wireless light does not come on.

Having worked in the electronics industry for years, I opened the computer to check for loose connectors or any obvious signs of problems inside the case.
There were no obvious visible signs of any component failures but I believe the motherboard has died.

The cooling fan still runs and several parts on the motherboard including the processor, chipset and 3 surface mount parts (resistors?) get quite hot (which is why the computer runs so hot under normal operation).

From reading posts from other people as well as my own experience and observations, I believe this computer obviously is prone to motherboard failures.

I would not recommend buying the computer (without also buying a long extended warranty) because of the weak processor and history of premature motherboard failure (possibly caused by excessive heat inside the case?). I also find the screen too small to be able to easily read the text on the high-resolution screen.

    Default cain'tagree.

this is the first piece of machinery since i sold my '64 Impala (dealer installed power windows) [and my firearms... forgot about them]... anyway, the first piece of machinery in quite a while that i have been seriously in love with. i scare myself... it is scary actually. a man infatuated with a machine.

goes everywhere with me and provides constant company, entertainment and feedback. my brain is plugged into the internet... and therefor prettymuch the worldwide World, friends, family, and enemies anywhere.

i can carry thousands of records, recordings, movies, books, look at em whenever and wherever it strikes my fancy. it is awesome.

i got the three year warranty, so really for a while i was TRYING to kill it, just to make sure it was tough enough... but it survived.

i WOULD HOWEVER keep those teeny tiny puny excuses for vents UNCOVERED. that is really the achilles heel built into this machine... probably by some megacorporation powerstruggle/wirecrossing between beancounters and various engineering departments. a look at the vents on the bottom[side, actually] of the similarly sized Toshiba or Fujitsu puters gives you a look at what we should have gotten to keep this fine piece of machinery purring happily along.
Freedom doesn't come easy. If we can't communicate without some devious controlling greedhead listening in and charging us for the priveledge, then it is gone. Internet+Freesoftware=A Chance at Freedom. You choose.

    Warning: RANT
    <rant>
Prior to the production machines shipping, there where a few pictures on the Web
    of a pre-production model.
The underside view showed more and larger air vents than what the production model
    ships with.
No signs of the "engineer" that made that decision has ever shown up.

BTW, how long do you leave your Mininotes on? I basically leave mine on 24 x 7 with the occasional re-boot if I feel it's starting to become unstable. I schedule all my virus scans, updates, etc.. in the middle of the night so I don't turn it off at all.

In my humble opinion, if you leave your mininote running for 5 weeks straight and it doesn't fail, I doubt that it will fail due to component failure as everything on the motherboard is pretty well "burnt in" after all that "On" time. It's my belief that if an electronic component is prone to failure, it will tend to: a. fail out of the box, or b. after a short "On" time.
I take my previous post back...

My MiniNote JUST died.. Put it to sleep, carried it to the office, took it out of my bag, noticed that the power switch LED is now on instead of blinking, and the wireless LED is now orange instead of off. Tried to turn on by sliding the power switch to the left and nothing happens. Had to do a hard turn off by holding the power switch for a few seconds... Tried to start up again, and this time, nothing happens at all.. :x Blank screen, no POST, NOTHING!!!

This happens right out of the blue, no warning, nothing... Going to call HP in a few minutes..

Called Hong Kong HP tech support and left my number. They called back after 2 hours. The tech had me remove the battery and all external devices, and then asked me to keep the power switch pressed for 15 seconds. After that, he asked me to connect to AC power without the battery and press the power switch. Still dead, so I was asked to drop the Mininote off at the HP service center.

Took an early day and dropped it off after removing the SSD. No problems from HP about sending it in without a HDD. Service is supposed to take 3 to 5 work days, so the earliest I can get it back would be next Monday.

I also just realised now that when I removed my "Sleeping" Mininote from my bag and found the power LED on, with the wireless LED orange, that my Mininote seemed to be pretty warm. So, I'm thinking that my Mininote crashed while in "Sleep" mode and woke up the CPU, causing the Mininote to overheat itself to death since it was in the case without any ventilation. :x

I guess when I get it back I'll be using hibernation mode instead of "Sleep" whenever I put it in my bag. There goes my 5 - 7 second boot-up..
