any particular performance gains with an SSD over a standard HDD? Faster write speeds? Battery life?

My boot time (to Windows XP login screen) went down from around 65 seconds on the 120GB 5400RPM HDD to around 35 seconds with the Samsung 128GB SSD.

Program startups are also noticeably faster. e.g. starting Photoshop CS3 takes about 10 seconds to a usable state instead of 18-20 previously.

Battery life estimates have also gone up by about 15 minutes on the 3 cell battery pack with the SSD versus the HDD, especially in activities where it constantly accesses the drive, like when you're watching a movie. I have no idea the battery gain on the 6 cell since I didn't have the 6 cell prior to switching out to the SSD. However, my estimated battery life on the 6 cell when watching movies is about 4 hours now. I can easily get 5+ hours if I'm doing less CPU intensive activities like browsing the web or writing a document.

My Samsung SSD is the 2nd generation MLC version. There is only one model if you buy the Samsung 128GB SSD, model: MMDOE28G5MPP. The Intel X-25M is nice, but is limited to 80GB or smaller, and it's still being sold at a premium price. I also don't see how much faster it will be when compared to the Samsung 2nd generation MLC.

See here for a Samsung 128GB SSD on ebay. It's got 13 hours left, it's still at only $150.

Thanks. Unfortunately it's already over $300 at the moment.
Since I don't need big storage space and can get dirt cheap, will try 32GB MLC Silicon Power disc.

Recieved Silicon Power SSD today . It's really much faster than classic SATA disc. Overall performance of the mini note has been greatly improved, all windows apps opens in a blink of the eye. Also, it seems a CPU temperature has droped a few degrees too.
