    Okay then.

I know which way I'm going. It will take me a while to get to it and report back.

I plan on doing just the side grill/mesh.

Honestly, between all the heat build up, sluggish performane and piss poor vidoe (I've been messin XP to get the video to play without pops and odd sounds) if this breaks I'll just throw it out. Maybe I'll burn it to get some joy out of it!

I plan on buying the new Asus 1000H or the MSI Wind.

    arcangel6,
good choice! Why not throwing a party and we all bring our Mini's to grill?

<just kidding - I am sure the 1.6GHz machines with 2GB of RAM have a better performance than my 1.2GHz, 1GB RAM even though I think Linux performs just fine.>
    Listing spec's is not a review! :-)

Ok, I just followed the long instructions and removed the other two screens. Pretty straight forward. The hardest part for me was re-attaching the keyboard film cable.

Hi all, ...seems like a pretty cool mod but I've not tried it...yet.

    1) What about a nice video on how to do this carefully from the inside? (for us less daring types)
    2) Can it be done cleanly so that the grills can be put back in later? Such that it looks as if they were never removed?

    Thanks, Rob

    Hi,

They can be carefully removed and replaced if you are very careful. I have been running the system since my last post and I am AMAZED at how much cooler the unit is running.

Now if I can only fix the video issues!

    Regards,

    Joe

    P.S.

    I just preorder a black MSI Wind w/XP from Amazon.com for $499.

    hey,

i think the video play back issue will be fixed with drivers, my videos play almost perfect with the new drivers just released for the video. i really like the windbook. but i need expresscard slot and i like hp's stlye. i will most likely stick with the hp and upgrade it when hp decides to drop in the isaiah chip in it.

uni chrome graphics are very old and not very good. they definitly hinder the performance of the video playback.

i will try to figure out a way to improve video performance.

by the way joe, what cpu is in your 2133?

    Hi Josh,

I have the unit with a 120gb HD, 2gb RAM and a 1.6ghz processor. I tried the unistalling SP3, removing SoundMAX, installing the patch and reinstalling the sound driver and still the video glitches even with Klite and Media Player Classic. I even tried with and without the SP3 service pack installed......still a problem. I did notice that the video appears to play fine, even Youtube without the SoundMAX driver (no sound though). When I reinstall the soundMAX driver the problem starts again. I can get movies to play quite nicely in Windows Player Classic; HOWEVER, after 5 or 10 minutes the popping and audio problems start as well as the stray video blips. I am at a loss. Thinking of upgrading to Vista.

    Any thoughts.

Thanks again the heat fix really worked well. It still gets warm but runs several degrees cooler now!

    Regards,

    Joe
