    Default Processor Upgrade Possible?

I've read on the internet that VIA's next processor "Isaiah" will be compatible with the current C7 socket. This processor is comparable and even beats Intel's Atom in some benchmarks.

    From: http://episteme.arstechnica.com/eve/...0005351931/p/1

-"Isaiah is an effortless upgrade; it's pin-compatible and fits in the same chipsets, power envelope, and TDP as C7. The day it comes out, all HP has to do is switch and it will fit perfectly, no engineering and no delay. So, processor anemia issues have a very short fuse. User upgrading may even be possible."

Has anyone seen is the chip is soldered to the motherboard? This would be great news if not!

I wish it would be that simple... unfortunately I read everywhere that it is soldered in.

Reading this article, it says the Isaiah will be available in limited quantities in June.

It seems that the VIA C7 processor socket is a Ball Grid Array
ie. it uses balls of solder instead of pins to connect the cpu. Not exactly the kind of thing you can tackle with a soldering iron.

ouch... that sucks. i was looking forward to someone modding their mini-note with one.

If someone has access to the correct sort of re-work equipment, say an employer's lab
or the engineering lab of a university - - -
It would be a "neat" experiment to try a different processor in the machine.
HP has the equipment (they actually developed a lot of it) - but they probably
are not letting any UMPC with an alternate processor out of the lab.

Well, I think I have an access to the equipement needed, but I need to be sure that Nano will fit current slot and it will work with current bridges, cause right now the only way to buy nano is to buy whole motherboard, and it's a bit expensive for "just try" Any ideas?)

Default oo! oo! me to, mr beasley?!

    hi all

registered and joined this forum to address this one single issue.

i am (amongst other things) a DJ and am using the Serato mixing system.

it won't run on a 1.2ghz C7M (it chugs like crazy), so i REALLY, REALLY want to upgrade my HP2133 to be able to run it. it'll be permanently plugged in, so battery worries are non existant.

cost isn't really an issue, so a new mobo with a better cpu would be ok, if one can be bought that gives me enough HP (er, sorry "horse power"!), to run it. thing is, i only think that 1.6ghz ones exist as the moment, off the shelf?

i have heard that the nano/isiah? was the same socket, but that the soldering was "ball soldering" and that it would be NOT easy to do, but that the right people could do it, as mentioned in this thread. the "794" model of the C7M is a 2.0ghz one, that might possibly be enough.

basically my 2133 is gonna sit there gathering dust, until i can get this sorted.

if i hear anything, i'll post back in this thread.

i don't believe that we can't do anything about this, so let's all work together and help out us and those who want to make their 2133's run faster!

    cheers,

you can get a lot of recommendations.

list your model number (i.e. KX870AT) and Operating System (with SP).
