no i wouldn't tell you that. lulz. you cannot upgrade the motherboard unless you you feeling lucky and found a used 1.6 mobo on ebay.
we would only be assuming your chasis will fit the mobo. (safe bet).

here's where i would start, since you're willing to spend some dough on an expensive mobo.

    in order of importance.
    1. buy a 2GB RAM module.
    2. upgrade your bios from hp's website.
    3. consider windows updates to SP3, and only allow critical updates.
3b.. consider a clean in stall of windows, upgrade to SP3, only allow critical updates.
    4. search Google for: XP UMPC tweaks
4b. follow directions of SEVERAL SITES (pre-read before following steps).

    5. buy a 7200RPM drive

i would only say steps 1-4b are necessary and provide the best results.

Even though it may be possible, swapping in a C7-M 794 would be a mistake. Not only because of the socketless BGA mess, but also because it has a TDP four times higher (20W) than your current 1.2GHz ULV chip (5W). The stock 2133 cooling system can barely handle the 1.6GHz ULV which has a TDP of 8W. Truth be told, I don't think it could handle any of the C7-M chips (the slowest having a TDP of 12W). Since the fastest C7-M ULV chip is 1.6GHz, your safest bet if to acquire a new motherboard or simply a new 2133, but in the end I don't think you would see much of a difference.

Ask the millions that buy PCs with 64-bit processors and 32-bit operating systems.

They stick to 32-bits for software compatibility.

hi, thx for the reply, luvit..

    1. what makes you think 2gb, over 1gb, will make any difference? (personally i don't think it will).
    2. has this been proven to make the 2133 go faster? (i havn't heard this yet).
    3. i have a fresh install of XP-SP2. does SP3 make XP run faster? i don't let windows update anything, actually! (if there's a specific update that i should get, then i will).
    4. i did, but didnt find much ^^
    4b. am happy to research
    5. the "performance" boost i need is not disk i/o, it's all cpu. (the app causes taskmanager to show 100% for too much of the time), that's the bottleneck.

    regards..

Laptopmag.com has a video of Joanna Stern upgrading the memory on her mini-note from the factory shipped 1 Gig module to a Corsair branded DDR2 SO-DIMM 2 Gig module. Unfortunately for Joanna, it really didn’t help the system performance running Windows Vista. Sorry Joanna.

    1. wtfbollos provided a good thread... more ram is always the right solution to speed things up. For windows, i recommend no less than 2GB.
    2. upgrading your bios can solve a lot of undocumented things, especially power management.
    3. a fresh install of SP2 is great... i run SP3 and am quite happy escpecially after following recommendations of several sites from googling XP UMPC TWEAKS
    4. google this instead: xp umpc tweaks services
5.agreed, but there is no single sivler bullet to speeding up a PC. it's RAM, CPU, and DISK considerations, in that order.

    helpful?
