My 2133 is just back from recovery at HP, it was totaly dead and I guess that was just a killed motherboard..
And now, the machine is back (yeah!), I replaced the disk with a faster 2.5 7200rpm drive.
Now it stalling .. freezes up, nothing is responding except the powerbutton.
Yeah, I'm sure it's the new HD, but I dont like it.
To get some perspective on it, I'm wondering if this freezing problem that you have is like this..
1. The machine is not responding,
2. Switching the powerbutton for about 2-4 sec
3. it all goes black (as it should)
4. Now it's possible to restart the system, at once after killing the machine.
I'm asking because it's feels a abit in a rush if I can restart the system at once after the stalling.
I can.
I've had the same problem too. Already sent it back to HP once and they changed the motherboard and keyboard for who knows what reason. It was fine for a while but its back. It sometimes locks up a few seconds after start-up...well before its had a chance to heat up. I'm going to see how long I can go in Safe mode to see if it might be a software problem.
Dear All,
I had the same problem with my machine (HP 2133, 1.6 GHz, 2 GB RAM, BIOS F.03) freezing. The machine was freezing even with no software installed, while doing nothing, the machine was actually lying on the table and suddenly it freezed.
After having investigated possible causes looking at the event logs, contacted the HP support, and even got a replacement machine from my reseller, I was still experiencing the problem.
I updated the BIOS to F.05, and enabled the option 'Fan always On while on A/C', but all this did not help. The machine seemed to be running a bit more stable but I was still experiencing the freezes multiple times a day.
I recontacted the HP support, and this time we possibly found a solution. After switching the power option to High Performance (instead of HP Optimized) the Mini Note is running fine since a couple of days now.
Of course, it is a shame that such a nice netbook comes with such a disastrous default configuration. Even worse, that it took quite a long time to find a solution.
I hope this can help you.
Kind regards,
Rudi
Same here, the problem is gone.
NEVER EVER run the system in the automatic speed stepping power schemes.
It seams to be OK in low power (800mhz) and the full power scheme.
I'm a bit intrested to see if all the people with the problem is running XP, might be that it's isolated to XP installs?
The HP Support in Sweden did not know anything about this issue.
I've installed SpeedswitchXP on my Mininote and have set it on "Dynamic switching" in both AC and Battery modes. I don't seem to have the "freeze" problem that the above two posters have.
I've installed XP Pro SP3 with all the updates as well as the official HP drivers for the Mininote. I've also updated the BIOS to F.05..
HP Drivers for the Mininote for XP Professional can be downloaded here.
BTW, this is the 2nd motherboard on my Mininote and I didn't have a problem on the 1st motherboard either.
I am running Windows Vista Home Basic. I experienced several freeze with the 'HP Optimized' power settings.
My HP2133 was freezing too, got a replacement one from the shop and second one had the same problem, though not as frequently as the other and seemingly only when running on battery. I'll try your suggestion of choosing another power scheme (hitherto only been using the HP Optimized one, since that one seemed to fit my needs), and I'll let you know. Thanks for the suggestion!
Martijn
I'm facing also this very bothering problem (frequently freezes without any special reason), but my Mini is downgraded to XP Pro (in Germany it comes default with downgrade CDs). There is no similar energy saving mode setting (HP optimized or High performance) in XP.
Has anyone a 100% working solution for XP?
The Bios is set-up to "fan always on".
Otherwise I see no chance as returning this nice but not proper working machine and buying anohter netbook...
