| On a 110 xp, does anyone know of a way to plug an mp3 player into the microphone jack to play it through the speakers? I have a player that will play line in, but it only picks up noise through the built in microphone, and doesn't recognize anything else. Can the microphone jack function as a line in, or is this not even possible? |

| Senior Member | AFAIK microphone in from electrical point of view should not be used as line in because of electrical incompatibility (Mics used in computers are condenser type and line-in uses something more similar to dynamic mics). Apart from this there are 2 additional problems: 1. Mic in is mono (mp3 player is stereo) 2. You have to use a special adapter, that connects line-out signal to the correct headers inside the port, as mini 110 uses a combo connector, that is stereo-out/mic-in integrated. All I could think of is using a USB audio card with line in to connect the player. But there is much easier solution: I think it will is much easier to just connect the player to the USB connector and play those MP3's directly using an MP3 player (even the built in Windows media player, or something like AIMP or WinAMP).

| New Admin! | Sadly jakubd is correct, you can't simply plug an mp3 player into the mic and have it pick up the sound. Your best bet would be to put the songs on some sort of portable media, or as mentioned plug in via USB and just play the files directly off the mp3 itself. |
