This is a discussion on Powered usb versus other usb within the General Discussion forums, part of the Main category; You might say: "Does not meet the USB-2.0 specifications" or "Provides more power than the USB-2.0 specifications state". But that ...

You might say: "Does not meet the USB-2.0 specifications" or "Provides more power than the USB-2.0 specifications state".
But that doesn't not sound like a very "politically correct" thing to tell a client/customer.
Maybe: "Enhanced USB-2.0 power" ? ? ? You just have to give the explanation the correct "spin".
Hint: What does Apple call it? They also provide "high drive" USB connections.

    Hi there

Are there any external 2.5" hard disks that can use the extra power comming from the powered USB connection?

    Cheers

stefhoesli: 99% of external 2.5" HDDs do not need no more that 2.5W (typical HDD without enclosure needs between 1.5 and 2.2W). Only CD recorders need a bit (but usually substantially) more power to run.

HPs website has nothing on them and forget about a Google search! You'd think they'd be available under "Mini Accessories" since they build the bloody things into their computers but Nooooo....

Just got mine, it looks nice... Except the output is a USB tiny B outlet - which is ONLY used in video cameras nowadays. Too bad, would have been nice on the new Lite-On DVD drive I just bought.
