    Default 2140 Discontinued?

About an hour ago, I called HP to ask them a few questions about the 2140 and to place an order. The sales rep told me that I couldn't order a 2140 because HP wasn't making them anymore and had none currently in stock. I asked why and she said that "a big company made a large order" and bought out their stock and that "many customers are disappointed." I told her that HP.com still had 2140s for sale and asked what would happen if I placed an order online. She said it "probably wouldn't go be processed." She offered to sell me a 1001 and after I flatly said no, she mentioned that HP was releasing a new, unannounced mini "5000 something" at the end of June! I asked her for details (aluminum case, etc.), but she didn't know much, just that it likely had a HD screen.

So, I placed an order online to see what would happen. My order was processed! I even got a confirmation e-mail!

I called HP again and spoke to a different sales rep. I asked him to confirm my order. He confirmed it but said he was surprised that I was able to order a 2140 online. I asked him why and he also said that HP was discontinuing the 2140, but he didn't know why and didn't mention any unannounced replacement. Then I asked him if my order would be fulfilled and he said he didn't know. He said he would e-mail me tomorrow and let me know.

Anybody else have this problem? Is HP usually this incompetent? Does anyone know anything about this alleged 2140 replacement, 5XXX?

I bought one a couple of months ago, and received it a week ago. (Love it, BTW!) However, I ordered a custom built model, so that may have made a difference. Look closely on the Web site and you can assemble your own machine.

Got this e-mail from HP Customer Service about an hour ago:

"Hewlett Packard would like to thank you for choosing us as your mobile computer vendor. Due to high demand on the portable system you have selected we will not be able to fulfill the order from on hand stock, therefore we have routed your order to the manufacturer for your product to be built. The average lead time to get these portables ready to ship may vary from 10 to 15 business days. If you have any further questions on your order status, please contact us by replying via email to <omitted> or by calling <omitted>. Thank you again for choosing Hewlett-Packard for your technology needs. We appreciate your business and value you as a customer."

I omitted the contact info because it wasn't readily available on their site.

HP took off the "Configure your model" tab from the 2140 page at some point this week. It's still available for other models, like the 1001. On the phone, the sales reps wouldn't sell me a 2140 regardless of configuration. They basically said it was impossible to buy one from HP.

However, it seems I'm getting my 2140 afterall

I just wish HP wasn't so ... confusing.

Now the HP.com site only allows you to order two pre-configured models neither of which are the HD one. In addition neither of these 2 models left are Vista. Only hope they are not getting out of the netbook business.

    NOT EXACTLY TRUE!!!

Just to prove it after leaving MYHPMINI and correcting there I just opened another MSIE and am presently there on their WWW.

Please be advised that the old URL I used to use did a REDIRECT
    to this: http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/us/en...0-3872994.html

Just out of curiosity I called their 800 number and was able to confirm the HOOHA that has been posted .... Sorry Jawbox!

Seems they think that the "new plastic" 1101 models and some others will fill our needs....? I got kinda sorta irate with the girl who answered the phone and mumbled something about HP doing their traditional dance step, called stepping on themselves with golf shoes.... Geez, I started with the 2133, then 2140 SD, then 2140 HD and really liked them pretty much........

I asked what about the 2150 in the "new toys" that they are bringing out and no not yet was the response....Just the plastic crap in the 11xx series.

In case it doesn't show I'm aggravated! I was assured that all of the support promises and such will still be there for us tho..... if that helps?

    Just got this e-mail:

"I am sorry. The Promo H2140UN270S0N16HBBNCN10Ha, manufacturer part number FM839UT#ABA on your order is no longer available and at this time there is no replacement product identified. We apologize for the inconvenience. If you would like to contact a sales rep in regards to another purchase, you can reach the sales department at 800-888-5858.

Unfortunately, due the fact that we cannot fulfill your order, the order will need to be canceled at this time.

We understand your current selection is your first choice and again, we are sorry it's not available.

We look forward to doing business with you again in the future.

    Sincerely,"

RIP, 2140. Time to complain as high up a HP chain as I can get.

If I'm told that the 1000 series has the "same components" again I'm going to get very irate.

You can still find 2133/2140 machines in the discontinued and/or refurbished listing:

Your point being? The discussion was about the discontinued HP2140. Time to look elsewhere for something. I think HP has their head up their ***.

Well, I talked to a number of people at HP SMB, including a supposed "engineer." Most were sure that the 2140 was being replaced, and two, the "engineer" and a sales rep, were sure that the model was a "HP Mini 5150." I remember the sales rep yesterday mentioning a "5000 something" model as well. Nobody, however, could tell me anything about the specs, release date, etc. The "engineer" seemed to be looking up info on the 5150 on their system, so at least he wasn't seemingly just pulling it out of thin air to appease me, like the sales rep.

I think HP has more than their head up their ***, or at least more than one of their heads. This whole expierience has been nothing but disorganization. One sales rep tried to sell me the 1101 as an "upgrade," and when I laundry listed why it clearly wasn't, he chose to argue that the 2140 didn't have an ExpressCard slot. That's just stupidity.

I feel a LITTLE bad for all the HP reps I talked to because they're as confused as I am. Well, all but the fellow that was short with me, but he probably was just sick of people like me griping about their canceled 2140

Anyway, it's very sad that HP didn't have the foresight not to discontinue the 2140 before its successor was at least announced.

I did try to convince them to give me a credit or a raincheck for the 5150 at the price of my forcefully canceled 2140 order, but, of course, that request was refused.

EDIT: Forgot to mention: One sales rep was kind enough to tell me that an e-mail was sent to HP sales reps stating some 2140 orders were allowed to be processed, but not all. Looks like I was not a lucky one.
